You most likely have the Mitsubishi 2.6L engine and the Mikuni carbs should only be worked on by someone that knows that carb well. Those engines have a reputation for either running forever or forever a problem

When the lid is latched, is there any play in it indicating a loose latch assembly. How does the lid align with the body? Otherwise check the weather stripping around the lid for deterioration and check the bottom and around wheel wells for rust thru. Martin
