Re: Happy new year and you know what 2011 means

Check some of my early posts for details regarding the fleet of pre-production promotional K cars that did the big nation wide pre-introduction tours. The K was a bit of marketing identification. GM was known for the "X" car, released for 1980, all of it's pre release cars were also called...

Re: Questions regarding '82 Lebaron

Butch is correct. I have seen several nice old cars that have sat for awhile get really messed up by the owners trying to start them with the old rotten varnished gas. If I were you, look at this car as a project, something to do when you have time, and try to restore it yourself. It sounds like a n...

Re: The many reasons why the kcarman (me) despises the 2.6

The best reason why the 2.6 has a bad rap can be found in the fact that the 2.6 had much higher maintenance requirements when new, including the need to adjust the valves around 30K miles or so. I am willing to bet that most people who bought a car with the 2.6 never did that, since the car was prob...

What was your most unusual job??

Just a fun post, thought it would be interesting to hear about any unusual jobs any of us may have had. I had a few: Part time Bartender at Chuck-E-Cheese ( I was the only one there who was over 18, so I was the only one who could legally make a wine cooler. Their version was a glass with 1/2 Mounta...

Re: The Used Car Lot: a road trip back to 1981

It is a shame that most people today who drive all those big 4 door trucks and other big SUV things don't remember or care that with all the oil we are using, everyone else in the world just laughs and calls us addicts, among other things. I remember, as a teenager, the oil embargo of the early 70's...

The Used Car Lot: a road trip back to 1981

It is interesting to reflect on what types of cars had no value or were being traded in back in 1981. At the time, people had no interest in Barracudas or Challengers; they were known as over-smogged, under-powered gas wasters and even though some were only 7 years old, they were not popular and wer...

Re: The tuff steering wheel 1981

I remember that wheel being the standard wheel for only the base loss leader 2 dr coupes in 1981, and that only being for the first part of the model year. No one liked the loss leader coupes, Only the truely desperate people bought those sad strippers. They seemd to be only used at large not-so-hon...

Re: 1st Gen History Gems, Part 7: " Keeping K Hot" Promotions

There actually were plastic promotional cars available of the first 1981 Reliants. They, along with all sorts of endless other trinnkets and giveaways, were listed as available in the pre-release packet sent to dealers in late summe/early fall 1980. I seen a couple of the promos back in 1980, but ne...

Re: 1st Gen History Gems, Part 7: " Keeping K Hot" Promotions

Always thought the clown idea was best.

Think of how scared the little kids would be to see a K car pull up and a bunch of hot, sweaty clowns fall out of it, probably all gasping for air at the same time!

The stuff nightmares are made of!!
