Re: its dead around here

Had a 1958 Edsel once that died inside a car wash -2 old tires popped and it got stuck in a continous soap cycle...serious!

Crowds cheered when the soapy dead Esdel was finally towed out!

Now that is dead!

Re: I can't believe it.

I agree that most of the K car fleet still in existance today were the cars of another generation. My '82 Spring Special was bought new for a little old lady, who later on in life gave it to her nursing home, who fixed all the little things up to as new, and made it available for all the other littl...

Re: CT Radio Station Disses the K-Car

The older I get, the more I appreciate the K cars and most of the other forgotten and sometimes unloved 80's econo cars. At least they had personality! Try finding that today in this world of plastic bubble cars. Is anybody really going to swoon over a Yaris or Excel 25 years from now?? Maybe the ti...

Re: The Basic Truth About the K

The worst K upholstery was the thin plaid cloth used on the first base Aries coupes early in 1981. The bench seat had no pleats, and the main seating areas used thin gaudy plaid cloth. There really were very unpleasant, uncomfortable, thinly padded seats. I had seen this same upholstery used in some...

Re: One more random K car picture from 1981

Yes, that was the 4-speed bench seat wagon. The picture was taken in the small town of Lovington New Mexico, a great place. That '74 Lincoln was one of my most favorite cars I ever had. It rode like no other car, pure quality and class. But you could actually watch the gas gauge ( the only gauge ) q...

One more random K car picture from 1981

Just another random picture with K cars from 1981. Both of the k cars were new at the time, the tan one was mine, the yellow one was my fathers. My 1974 Lincoln MKIV got 7 miles per gallon... on a good day...! The '66 VW got 20 mpg, K cars beat them both http://i56.tinypic.com/x5yzag.jpg

Re: WANTED 1981-1984 reliant, aries hood and trunk lid

Welcome to the club! I have had many first generation K cars, but I know that NOS sheet metal is very difficult to find. Most of us here try to look for rust free used parts, which is easier to find at wrecking yards in the western US. Or if rust is the main problem with your car, you may be better ...

Fun with K Car Hot Wheels

I liked my original 1981 K so much that I made one out of the Hot Wheels wagon in the same (factory K) color. A 2 door Spring Special will be my next HW project, when I find another junk wagon. The woodie HW in the pic is a new one, never played with at all. The 4 dr is a Reliant, converted from the...

Re: Questions regarding '82 Lebaron

The '81 didn't smoke when I had it, never had any oil usage at all. As long as the smoke clears up after a couple of minutes, I wouldn't worry much about it.. It always ran good for me too, never stalled or had any no start issues. My first 1981 Reliant, back in 1981, only did a no start once. I was...

Re: Questions regarding '82 Lebaron

The 2.6 was the Mitsibushi "Hemi" engine, I think the biggest problem is that most are not familiar with it's workings. Many engine problems are first thought to be a bad carb, but end up being something else. I found that most of my carb problems on hundreds of old cars I have had are fro...
