Your dad is right, the tube sends air to help burn any unburnt fuel in the ex. Have a muffler shop fix it. Get a 7/8" 6 point deep socket to remove it. DON'T USE A 12 POINT socket. Do they have emission testing where you live ? I presume this is why you're asking about fixing these things.

Yea it would be nice to have saved that Wagon if only I could. Around here once the yard gets it, it's history. I did get the clutch cable self adjust assy. off of it for a spare for my Laser. So aleast a part of it will still live.
