Yea what he said go the 89 T2 route, that is IF you can find a donner car. Under the hood of my 86 Laser is all 89 T2 with only a few mods.

More than likely it's a 2.2, the 2.5 looks about the same but the oil pan is differant as the 2.5 has balance shafts beneath the crank. There should be a tag on the diff cover with the FD ratio on it.
