Re: Compression results better than I thought. Questions.

Your compression numbers are within the norm, and actually pretty good for as many miles as your car has. I wouldn't worry about it. It sounds like your car has other problems to worry about that are a lot more significant and lot more dangerous. The engine compression is not one of the problems.

Re: Alan the K-car. ENGINE PROBLEM.

Who told you those were bad numbers? Have you even checked to see what they are coming out of the factory? I had a 318 that new out of the factory runs somewhere around 140-160 (if I remember correctly), when I tested it at 100,000 it had numbers similar to yours and they were considered good number...

Re: Why I won't give up on Alan.

Well, I always changed the oil. So did I. Thought it was some cheap maintenance I could afford and would keep me going for a long time to come. But, when the engine needs new rings, and the fuel pump needed replacing because it leaked oil (old style pump), the transmission was slipping, etc etc etc...

Re: Why I won't give up on Alan.

Why can't a collector car be a daily driver? Who is to say that my car couldn't last 500,000 miles? The interior and exterior are still decent. But, I see the point. THAT'S the POINT!!! It COULD! But ONLY if it's taken care of. I know! I have seen a few cars of mine that I loved sincerely but had t...

Re: Why I won't give up on Alan.

mho, for what it's worth? If you really love your K-car as much as you say you do, you would be parking it until you could afford to have the proper repairs made to it to not only make it safe but to also help preserve its life. As someone else suggested, buy yourself a beater, drive IT into the gro...

Re: 89 dodge aries WONT TURN OFF

Your car probably won't turn off because it IS overheating. This can cause carbon deposits- or other hot spots- to stay hot in the cylinder, hot enough to ignite any raw fuel still in the chamber. Check for more information under dieseling . And if I remember correctly, carbon deposits can develop h...

Re: 89 Dodge Aries OVERHEATING

If antifreeze was burning you might not be able to tell and you can certainly drive a car with a bad head gasket. Just trying to rule out everything else first but with all the problems and "Repairs" done to the car, it's going to be impossible. Yeah, I HAVE! Without knowing it, hence the...

Re: 89 Dodge Aries OVERHEATING

Just because the oil isn't milky doesn't mean the head gasket didn't go. The water could be leaking into the cylinder instead of the oil and getting burned away (I learned that the hard way). Still sounds like a head gasket to me, too. But I'm no mechanic, just an old geezer that's had about everyth...

Re: Dumb question. What will happen? Front struts broken.

Since all the explaining in the world doesn't seem to get through... It is not safe to drive. Fix it or park it. AMEN! I would not want to know you were on the road with that ticking time bomb in my area of the world, much less any other area. At your mileage your whole front end probably needs to ...

Re: $5000 1985 Chrysler LeBaron Coupe. SoCal

I seriously doubt if even on the West Coast he'll get anywhere close to what he's asking. We may have a thing for cars here more than some other places but we're not stupid. WAYYYY too much money. I wonder where they come up with these prices sometimes.
