Finding Reverse

Postby jt1911 » Sat Jun 20, 2009 4:37 pm

Okay Im new to this site.I havent done an intro yet.Hope that isnt a problem.I just bought my first Aries yesterday.I scored an 88 5 speed coupe for $400.00.
Only problem so far is finding reverse. The gear layout decal is gone from the shifter knob and my Haynes manual doesnt show it.I assume the pull up ring below the knob is the reverse lockout. But I still cant manage to get it in R. Thanks.

Pull up on the ring, pull to left and then forward. If it won't go your clutch is more than likely bad.

it's quite far over to the left as well - if it won't engage - try putting the car back into neutral - pumping the clutch several times and re engaging reverse. There is no synchromesh on reverse and it can be a bit clunky - I have noticed that the synchromesh on my 2nd gear ain't great either so I double-de-clutch

Hey, thanks for the replies.I actually found R last night around dark. After all the huntin' grindin' and researchin,my wife said"Why dont you call the guy you got it from". Duh Huh... All the way left and up.Thats almost backward enough to have been made by Volkswagen.
I'm realy diggin' this car! I've owned nearly 40 cars so far and this is just the third Chrysler. But when I found this coupe with the 5 speed I had to have it.Right now its faded sky blue.I want to go government grey, with some black Nascar wheels and a Cherry Bomb muffler.Would air shocks be too much?It does kinda sag in the rear.

I'v noticed that mine kind of hangs low in the rear too. Is that a designed to be like that? Because I was thinking about replacing the suspension on mine.
