Manual Transmission Fluid

Postby crowan » Mon Sep 20, 2010 5:14 pm

Hi,
I had changed the manual transmission fluid on my '87 2.2L with ATF as the Haynes manual recommended. When I took it in to the shop to ask for a flush (which they told me after that it can't be done) they told me that two commercial mechanics sources said to use Engine Oil SAE 5w30. So now that's what's in there! What are other people running in their standard tranny? It doesn't seem that ATF did any harm.

I always was told use Dextron III when I had my 5 speed 1986 Dodge Lancer.
