Engine cold starts and runs great for miles, no problems, tranny good, engine temp runs normal, doesn't use oil, 20+ mpg. Shut it off and it won't start for at least 2 hours until it gets cooled down. Any suggestions appreciated. Slim

Sounds like it could be a bit of percolation , where you no longer have any fuel in the carb and the existing fuel vapour could be hindering a carb refill (ie: vapour lock). Try cooling the carb and the lines by wrapping cool cloths around them remove the cloths after a bit and see if it starts...
After a shut down "heat soak" takes place where the engine temp climbs before it begins to cool , you see this on a hot restart where your temp gauge goes past center and then as the engine starts to circulate coolant it drops, the heat soak phase could be causing your carb to "percolate" all of the fuel out of it ...you may sense a fuel odour as well...

That's a helpful reply ^^^^^

Also if you look on Ebay (and maybe elsewhere) you will see a Chrysler book is available :

" CHRYSLER 2.6L ENGINES DRIVEABILITY TEST PROCEDURES MANUAL "

It will help if you read up on the symptoms and then do the tests that they describe.
Be sure to do the tests in the correct order and follow their directions to get results.

Hope that helps
Gary

What weight oil are you using? With one of my other older cars I had used a free oil change coupon. They put in bulk 5w-20 and when the car was hot it wouldn't restart 'till sitting for over an hour no matter how much water I poured on the fuel line. Found out the oil was too thin and the rings couldn't seal well enough to get a vacuum to pull the air through the carb. Switched back to 10w-40 and no problems.

I use a diesel grade 10w30 in all my cars to be specific its Shell Rotella T triple protection as it has enough zinc (ZDDP) in it to protect the flat tappet cams in my v-8's and it will protect the cam shaft on the 2.2's since all pre '86 2.2's use the "slider" style
rocker arm. The 2.6 would require the same protection since the rocker arms slide across the camshaft as well.

Thanks to all who responded to my warm engine not starting. It was the coil, not vapor lock. I appreciate all the help. Slim
