84 Lebaron Convertible Idling issues

Postby KarenLebaron » Wed Feb 03, 2016 7:19 pm

Hello all. I am new to the club, and k cars. I just bought an 84 Lebaron Convertible. The car is in great shape with only 65k miles. My only issue so far is the idling. After running for a while 20 mins or more, when in park it sort of revs and sputters back and fourth. Doesn't stall just doesn't sound good. Also if anyone knows of any way to upgrade the headlights I would appreciate any help! Thanks!!!

Hi
Need a little more info...is the engine a 2.2 Chrysler , turbo or non-Turbo or a 2.6 Mitsubishi? With regard to the headlights they came with Halogens as standard equipment...There are a number of "upgraded" Halogen sealed beam headlights available such as the Sylvania Xtra Vision etc. which will do a good job. Keep in mind that your car is equipped with a circuit breaker in the headlight switch that will limit the max wattage of the headlight with the intent of protecting the circuit wiring but its adequate enough to allow you to install a decent set of DOT approved lights. In order to make major changes a separate supply/relay system would be required.

Thanks for the reply, it is a non turbo, so I assume it's the 2.6 Mitsubishi. I'm in the process of restoring the front end... Once I locate the parts. I have been unable to locate a fully assembled strut, as I don't wish to compress the spring myself. Also the control arms have been elusive. I've got axels, spindles, ball joints, and tie rods. I'm going to see if I can find those headlights today. I'm interested in doing a rear disc conversion if it's a reasonable task. Any and help is greatly appreciated!

How can I tell if it's the 2.2 or 2.6?

It embedded in the VIN.

Try this VIN decoder or another online VIN decoder.

Also, you can tell visually. See links below

Also, I doubt you will able to find fully loaded strut assemblies for 84 Lebaron. The fully loaded units seem to be available for 90's and later K-car derivative Mopars but not for 80's vintage K-cars.

Here is a link with some brake upgrade information.

You might also find some useful brake information on the Turbo Mopar website if you search.

It's definitely the 2.2.... The vin decoder didn't work, but from the pics I can tell. Thanks!
