I have a soft spot for GM J bodies.

Can't help it folks, I would consider owning a GM J body as a second choice outside of Chrysler. They are such an unusual car and need fans to save them. Oddly enough, I see more of them than K-cars. I even see occasional 82-83 Cavaliers. For some odd reason, I know of at least 4 GM 80s J bodies I see all the time near my house and two of them are Cavaliers in good shape. I even saw a wagon recently that was 100% free of any wear and tear. I even saw an 82 Pontiac j2000 sedan with a giant red Pontiac arrowhead painted on the hood over gray primer. There is also a young dude near my house with an 80s Z24 in perfect condition. Whats with the J bodies still being around? 8)

Cant stand them.
The family had a Cavalier in the fleet from 1989-2009 (2 of them,1989 and 1994) and I would prefer to live life not coming face to face with another.Constant trouble, pains to work on,replacing parts you should never have to (frame rails, rear axle beam),the 4 separate brake lines due to the ABS system.GMs lousy screw in gas line fittings...all the discontinued parts, the low roofline and high seating, strange steering column angle, knees rubbing the standard console, touchy brakes, frequent ABS sensor failure, intermittent starting issues, great placement to check fluid level on the Isuzu issue 5 speed transmisson, rocker panel and rear quarter rust, trunk leaks, windsheild interior frost frequency, alternator rear bearing failure, sticking thermostats, heavy doors that eat door hinge pins and bushings.Door anchored seatbelts.Automatic locking doors.Lack of real world rear legroom.Rear shock failure, rear coil spring breakage, rear coil spring mounting cup rust.Lousy front swaybar mounting clamp location (atop the framerails, not accessable unless dropping rails).
No,the Js are the pits in my book.
I would take a Tempo over one anyday.

Yet, in SoCal, there are TONS more GM Js than K-cars. They are rare now, but I still see 80s Cavaliers a couple times a week. Even some 82-83s are around, and I just saw an 82 Cavalier Wagon driving in Ventura two weeks ago. Also, one of our own members bought an 83 Cavalier Convertible he is trying to sell for $12,000. 8-) I even see an 83 Cimarron near my office frequently, beat to a pulp of course.

I never liked the J-bodies. I'd own an X-car or Vega before owning one of those. Design-wise the Xs at least had some style. The wagon are the only J-bodies that looked well proportioned. The only thing less appealing to my eye is the Ford Escort of the period.
