Yes, that was the 4-speed bench seat wagon. The picture was taken in the small town of Lovington New Mexico, a great place.
That '74 Lincoln was one of my most favorite cars I ever had. It rode like no other car, pure quality and class. But you could actually watch the gas gauge ( the only gauge ) quickly drop while you were driving it, just a little too pricey to drive all the time, even back in 1981 when gas was 89 cents per gallon.
Back in 1981, most people out there drove to the Texas state line to buy gas, as it was alot cheaper there than on the NM side. At the line, in the middle of the "desert", there were no homes for many miles around, just a cluster of gas stations and fireworks stands perched on the Texas side of the state line.
