Car Show in CT - Sunday, May 14

Postby 82Lebaronconv » Tue Mar 15, 2011 1:23 am

Greetings from Connecticut. On Sunday, May 14, I will be attending a car show in Stratford, CT with my 1982 Lebaron Convertible. Another car club that I am a member of is one of the organizers. This is the second year for this show and last year, I invited Chrysler K car owners in the Northeast. We ended up having a total of 5 K-Cars that day and it was a great time. This year, I am once more extending the invitation and would like to see more K's. Here is some additional information on the show. Please e-mail me at jtlepak@cox.net if you think you would like to attend.

Sincerely,
Jeff Lepak, Connecticut Chapter President

Awarded the Best Spring Event in the Connecticut Cruise News 2010 Readers Choice poll, the Second Annual Boothe Memorial Park and Museum Antique & Classic Car Show will take place in Stratford on Sunday, May 15, 2011 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. In combination with Opening Day ceremonies, Boothe Park will again host a car show presented by the Connecticut Seaport Car Club and the Eastern Packard Club. Last year the dual event presented opportunities for visitors to see all 20 historic buildings at the Park as well as antique automobiles dating as far back as 1910, all free to the public.

The Museum had a spectacular turnout for its first car show last May. Thanks to the tremendous media sponsorship provided by Don Clady of Connecticut Cruise News, 185 show vehicles motored to the park near the Housatonic River on Opening Day. There was a variety of cars from different time periods and many on display were of Concours quality. Due to its tremendous success, the car show is now an annual event in combination with the Museum’s numerous activities for the entire family to enjoy. Volunteers will add more to make this year’s show better yet.

Facilities at the Park include plenty of picnic areas, a handicapped accessible playground, and restrooms. Personal Touch Catering will serve grilled food and sandwiches at reasonable prices for breakfast and lunch. Added this year will be a vintage Good Humor truck stocked with ice cream and a bake sale by the Port 5 Ladies Auxiliary. Connecticut Cruise News is the official media sponsor for this event.
At 11:30 the Port 5 Naval Veterans of Bridgeport will conduct a flag raising ceremony with the National Anthem sung by Karen Milosky. The Park and its Museum Opening Day venues will be open from 1 – 4 pm and are free to the public.
At the car show field, DJ’s on the Move will provide their great audio services with lively music. Upon arrival, the first 200 registrants will receive goody bags with brass dash plaques and Connecticut Cruise News. If a group arrives together, they can park together, but no reserved parking. Trophies will be determined by ballot voting. Also added this year will be a Kid’s Trophy. While all show vehicles will be welcome, with no cut-off year, it is highly recommended that owners register early. For information and to pre-register Show Cars for only $10, or to sponsor trophies, please contact Rich Iannucci at 203-610-3330 or go to CTSeaportcarclub.com. You may also email at info@ctseaportcarclub.com. The car show is free to the public and open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. In the event of rain, only the car show will be rescheduled to the following Sunday, May 22.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Park’s turn-of-the-century setting is a perfect marriage for the antique autos. On the grounds are many architecturally unique buildings and attractions such as the original homestead, the technocratic cathedral, the windmill, ice-house, out-house, and the chapel. Be sure to bring a camera as there may be a few car owners who will allow photos in their vehicles, such as Bob Rescsanski and his 1930 Ford Hot Rod.

Observe the ever popular sheep shearing event, spinning and weaving, turn-of-the century machines, and carriage displays. In addition, visitors can tour the elaborate model train building, the working blacksmith shop, the observatory with its highly accurate telescope, the amateur radio clubhouse and equipment, and the genealogy library with ongoing demonstrations. The Stratford Community Band will play throughout the afternoon and an art show is planned by local young artists. Most of the hands-on exhibits will be staffed by knowledgeable tour guides.
Volunteers from two car clubs, along with others, work together for this event to help promote the hobby, make new friends and enrich the community. Rich Iannucci from Stratford coordinates the volunteers from the Eastern Packard Club, the Connecticut Seaport Car Club, Port 5 Veterans and Friends of Boothe Park months in advance for planning the Boothe car show down to the last detail.

The Eastern Packard Club, established in 1964 has worldwide membership with over 300 members who own over 450 Packards. About 75% of the members live in the New England - New York - New Jersey area. This club is noted for the information it supplies to members and non-members alike, with an emphasis on friendships. Additional information on the Eastern Packard Club can be found at http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/eas ... index.html.

The Connecticut Seaport Car Club, founded in 2009 is based in Fairfield County Connecticut. It was voted Car Club of the Year two years running in a Connecticut Cruise News Readers Poll, and also elected is its President, Mark Milosky, as Car Club Officer of the Year. This club has been formed in the interest of making the car hobby fun as its first goal. Its members are a friendly bunch of seasoned vintage and special interest car enthusiasts from all over Connecticut as well as other locations whose hobby are to own and restore vintage autos, street rods, trucks, customs, stock original restored cars and antiques. The Connecticut Seaport Car Club has a very active website with many photos and information for everyone to enjoy and get the most out of the hobby. There website is found at www.ctseaportcarclub.com.
