fresh pictures of my 1981 1/2 plymouth Reliant custom

Postby 88 aries » Wed Apr 20, 2011 8:50 pm

well since it's spring and i had a day off from work, I decided to take some new pictures of my pearl white Reliant custom. I have replaced the cheap replacement carpet, in its place is carpet from a 230,000 mile reliant station wagon, it was in bad shape but the carpet came out nicely. also the dash has a new coat of paint as well as the plastic trim. engine is the same from the fall pictures with only a few improvments.

Looks great!

I noticed that you have the door lock butttons. I guess that was an 1981 only item. Do the door locks mechanisms work better with that design. My 83 sometimes seems to ocassionaly get stuck in between the two positions and I have to play with it back and forth until it finally works - even after relubricating it.

Also, I noticed near the firewall (maybe 6 or 8 inches from the firewall toward the front of the vehicle) something looks different than on the later cars. It looks like there is a crossbar or brace going between the sides. I don't remember seeing that - but maybe its just because yours is so clean.

I like the door locks on top better, you can lock them and then unlock them by opening the door, but I never lock my doors anyway's and that cross member is part of the firewall well actually it is the fire wall, its just that clean 85's didnt have this because of the new hood design

Always good to see your pristine 81. Plus the added bonus of the period memorabilia. A nice presentation.

As always Looks GREAT!!!

I did not know that the dash was metal in 81 and 82!! I kept reading you had painted this or that on the dash, now it makes sense!!!

You did a wonderful job!!

Awesome car, amazing condition. I was curious about the specs on the poster you showed. According to all of my info, the A-412 was the manual transaxle, and the automatic used with the 2.2 was the A-413.

nope the 2.2 4 speed was an A460 the 81-82 cars with automatic had the A 412, it was called the A 412 because of the different gearing. in 83 when the K got higher horsepower the trans was upgraded to the A 413
