No, it wasn't the K-car. It was a lot of bad models of the late 90s and early 2000s, and poor decision making. How old is this Perry, 15? He is clueless.

He's talking about the 1st brink of extinction for Chrysler but gets it completely wrong. The first brink of extinction was caused by the type of models offered in the lates 70's, the quality issues in the late 70's, and the gasoline crisis - not by the K car as the author asserted in the article. Virtually everyone with any automotive knowledge, whether they like Chrylser or not, recognizes that the K-car was a huge success for Chrysler and is considered "the car that saved Chrysler". The profits obtained, based largely on K-car sales, allowed Chrysler to pay back the government loan early, and the government made a large gain in the transaction. In addition, the variations and derivates of the K-car platform including the re-introduction of the convertible into the American car market and the mini-van proved to be hugely successful for Chrysler. The author graduated from the University of Illinois in 1974, so he is old enough to have been around at the time and should know better.

The second decline of Chrysler came about following the very unsuccessful merger with Daimler-Benz.

What is wrong with our world is IGNORANT, STUPID IDIOTS, passing themselves as EXPERTS. Yet millions of people read and believe whatever they read or see on TV, when most of it is manipulative BULLSHIT!!!!! There, I feel much better.

Its thanks to these stupid idiots, the K-car for 81-85 is on the brink of extinction. No 82-85 4drs exist in SoCal anymore. But, Nick is doing his part, lol.

Chryslers problem has never been "quality" specifically its always been relying on the minivan and truck market to float them and hardly if ever introducing new or significantly updated models, It looks like they're on the right track again much like the 80's, I mean in Canada most lots can't keep the new Jeep Compass in stock. Just goes to show how little the "professionals" pay attention... :roll:

I tend to disagree on quality issues not being a problem - quality of desgin?. Many lifelong Mopar buyers vowed never to buy Chrysler again after problems experienced with the late 70's Mopars. The cars did not seem to meet the same standards as the previous series cars (Darts/Vailants) that they were replacing. Remember the famous "lean burn", lots of intermittent electrical issues, and fenders that rusted through prematurely.

As for hardly ever introducing signifcantly updated models that is certainly true. However, offering new products lines now takes alot of money and that is something Chrysler does not have.

I must say. what FIAT has done in the short time it has had Chrysler had been commendable. It took two areas (Interiors and suspension dynamics) that needed attention, upgraded them across the board. We shall see if FIAT's quality has improved since they were last here in the eighties.
