a cranky K-car

Postby 88 aries » Wed Feb 04, 2009 12:44 am

i went down to the storage shed and started My reliant, first try it fired right up, then it spit and sputtered and then just died, 2nd start was very rough still didnt start, then i put the battery on the charger and then i crank and cranked and then finely it started, i also noticed a little bit of oil on the floor and a little bit of tranny fluid, then after a while she ran fine. i still got that darn buzzer going through my speakers, annoys the heck out of me. anyways thats the news for today, This K doesnt like cold apparently. OH well only 2 months left of winter and then its Car show time.

Oh dear. Good luck. Watch out for that tranny leak. I was with my boss when a the transmission seal blew and a huge puddle of tranny fluid erupted out of the bottom of his RARE RARE 1964 Studebaker Cruiser Sedan. Then, the fluid lit on fire and we managed to save the car minus the burned paint and burned wiring. Be careful about that leak. I hope you have no problems. By the way, K-cars do get cranky. Mine is a prime example.

the tranny fluid was near the tranmission lines not the tranmission its self, why is it that my aries will start right up and my reliant likes to be cranky, could it be that the computer is different. i also checked for leaks while running, i shifted into reverse backed it out a little then shifted into drive, all is working fine. Code 55 i get all the time meaning that there is nothing wrong with my computer. Anyways, ill give it a good check up before she hits the roads for show season.

What kind of spark plugs do you have installed? You probably already know this, so pardon me if I'm just repeating things, but if they aren't the "Suppression" (not sure I have the right name) type of spark plug, you will get electronic interference through your speakers. I found that out from real life experience. Changed the spark plugs to the suppression kind and the noise went away.

Get Champion spark plugs its what my mechanic where I co-op'd told me to use on Chrysler 2.2 and 2.5L engines. But in gm's it usually ac delco for the v6's and autolite which you are using is more ford escort type. Hope this helps!
