Timing anyone?

Okay,
So, I know you all have helped me out soooo much so far; though I am going to ask 1 last favor. What are the 2 wires I need to disconnect in order to time my car. Also, where are they located. Geese, I wish I had a shop manual for this car. I got the Plugs, Cap, and Rotor for it. Then, I'm off to the smog station for my free retest. Ooooh yea, I forgot, I talked to this one mechanic and he told me to use a jumper cable and disconnect my battery, but connect the 2 cables together and it will clear the system ecu from trouble codes. Is this true. BTW I have a 1985 Chrysler La Baron Turbo Convertible.

I think the engine coolant temp sensor needs to be disconnected. Not sure about anything else being disconnected to set timing. This is a link to some general information about setting timing on a 2.2 from another forum. Not sure if its exactly applicable to your year vehicle.

In regard to the procedure for clearing out the codes. Disconnecting the battery for a sufficient length of time is one way to clear the codes. Not sure that I would recommend a jumper on the disconnected circuit to quickly discharge the computer. Typically when you want to discharge a circuit that is retaining a residual charge it is better to use a bleed resistor than a direct jumper. Its safer to just disconnect the battery and leave it off for awhile.

BTW some states require a number of fault free turn-on cylces following a code clear to pass inspection.

Thank you. I actually just replaced that sensor so I know exactly where it is at. Thank you for your help.
