The first 10,000 K cars "officially" sold were supposed to be a part of the 10,000 in 10 days nationwide promotion. At the dealership we were supposed to keep track of any Ks in this group that were prepped for delivery after they were sold, one of the "quick indicators" was supposed to be the hard plastic strip along the top of the door edge. The customer was given a letter congratulating them on showing their support for the New Chrysler Corp. I also remember seeing a some cars after the promotion ended that had the plastic strip, but 95% of them didn't. I'm sure Chrysler used up what ever parts were on hand, and may have installed most of their back up stock when it was determined that the part was not going to be used ever again. Many people thought it was an excellent way to "save" the soft vinyl from wear, but most didn't like the look and the general hard plastic feel, and that school of thought seems to have won out. Also keep in mind that there were fleet cars being readied for sale at the same time that did not fit the same number sequence and also that the big group of early promo cars were still being gotten rid of too, without fanfare through the dealerships, so the actual serial numbers of the early cars fitting in this group should be considered "flexible".
