Reliant Tires

Postby jed1977K81 » Sun Apr 17, 2011 4:26 am

Hi Yall, been too long since I have posted anything! Been busy hunting up parts for my 81 Reliant. I do have a question for you folks about tire sizes though.

My car seems to have the original FACTORY wide white tires on it. Their size is 175/75 R13. All I have found in my area are the 175/70 and the 175/80s? You guys have any input?

Thanks,

Jay

I agree! I like whites on this style of car Regardless of color! My big issue is what size would be best for the car the taller 80s. Or the lower profile 70s?

well my 81 is riding 80 in the front and 75 in the back, I Needed a couple of tires since one was out of round and one had a bad belt, so I had no choice, but they look great on the car and give it an originality look, but eventually I want them to match, I think handcock makes them still but im not sure

Firestone makes a 13" narrow whitewall, these are what I got last year and currently run on the '82 Spring Special. The 14" narrow is alot more common, Sears has them, as well as others.

Correct whitewall for the first gens are not being made and haven't been for years, the narrow ones currently available are too narrow, and the wider ones at Coker and other places are too wide.

Not ready to get those ultra wide whitewalls for my K, the narrow ones I have look just fine.

I also have an 81. It has the optional tire size of 185/70-13. This size and the standard option 175/75-13 have almost the exact same diameter (differs by less than 1/8 inch) so the speedometer calibration is correct for both. I checked all my sources, and can't find 175/75-13's anywhere. Several places still make the 185/70-13's though. I have Kumho Solus KR-21's. They are great except they are blackwall. Firestone still makes their FR-380 tire in the 185/70-13 size, with a nearly correct width whitewall. I think I might try to buy a set while they are still available.
