Weak Windshield Wipers

Postby GrammaCar » Thu Feb 05, 2015 5:54 pm

Hey, guys.

So my wipers have been slow and squeaky since I got my car (1984 E-Class). I put on new blades as soon as I got the car, but that didn't help. Recently they've gotten even slower. And now when they start to wipe but pause for a few seconds first.

What do you think? Can I fix that by lubing something that has dried out? Is the motor going bad?

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a shot.

I found some tips suggesting the moving parts might just need lubricating too. I'll try to get in there this weekend and take off the stuff to get to the other stuff.

Hey, guys. Problem solved.

I started taking everything apart to grease it up. I tested the motor and it's fine.

But I got frustrated trying to take it apart since it's so hard to reach. Instead, I just hit the major joints with PBlaster, then the next day I used some of that Liquid Wrench foamy lithium stuff. Everything seems to work fine now. The sprays worked great since I couldn't quite reach the joints.

I don't know how weather proof it'll be, but the area is fairly protected. And it's easy enough to just spray a little more grease on there since most of the joints are visible through the plastic there.

Only problem is my air vents smell like spray lubricant now. Hopefully that'll go away in a couple of days.

Hello Gramma Car.

Just to let you know, your ID Card is still in the works. We have finished 30 of the 85 so far, and we just got some more money. I really think your
E-Class is the nicest one I have ever seen. All the best.
