'84 2.2L Turbo - Code 22 - I think it's almost fixed...

Postby GrammaCar » Tue Apr 05, 2016 6:32 pm

Hey, guys.

I could use some help finishing up with a couple of what should be easy fixes.

I had a Power Loss light giving me a "22" (Coolant Temp Sensor). I replaced the Coolant Temp Sensor and repaired a broken wire with a butt connecter.

Then I got an Engine light, which started very dim and brightens up after about a minute, along with the Power Loss light and the same code "22". Then the audible warning that my engine was overheating.

It's definitely not overheating, so after checking a couple of other things, I ordered a new PCM (had a similar problem in the past and the shop I took my car to fixed the problem with a new PCM).

The new PCM didn't do anything, so I'm not sure what to check next.

Do you guys think the butt connector on the lead to the Coolant Temp Sensor is throwing off the reading/resistance? Would it be better to try to fix the wire by soldering or something?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think that sensor on the 84 Turbo 2.2 connects to the Logic module located inside the car. Is that the one that you changed?

Oh, that could be it.

I changed the module in the engine compartment on the left front fender. Probably just the wrong computer. Maybe replacing the other one will fix the problem.

Thanks!

Hey, all.

So I've been doing some reading, and it turns out I replaced my Coolant Temp Sender instead of Sensor.

I probably aughtta replace the right thing and see if that fixes my problem.

Still weird about the "Engine" light though.
