Digital Dash problem

Postby taxiguy » Tue May 19, 2009 4:11 am

I have a 1984 Dodge 600 ES Turbo, which is equipped with a digital dashboard.Thankfully, most everything on it works just fine. However there is one problem which I would greatly like to fix, and that is the odometer.

It is completely whack. Everytime the car is started it resets to either 19383, 19385, or 19387. It will start to rack up the miles, but not to scale. I can drive 10, 20, or 50 miles and it will never go over 19395. Then of course when the car is turned off and on again it goes right back to one of those numbers in the 19380s.

I've heard before that when a digital dash goes, the car is as good as junk. I really hope this isn't true, and that either I or a mexhanic can somehow fix this odo. For now it's lost at most only 1,000 miles to the glitch, but as I drive more and more it will be hard to tell how many miles it really has.

Does anyone know how this can be fixed (or if it even can be)?

Also if it cannot be fixed is there some kind of aftermarket odo that can be installed so I can at least keep track of the miles somehow?

Play those numbers in the lottery. It's an omen. When you win, take it for a full restoration, including the odometer. See? Problem solved!

(I realize this wan't terribly helpful, But I coulnt resist....Rich)

Get a replacement digital dash at a junk yard, change it out and see what happens. It's not over for your car. I have 5 in my garage in case mine goes crazy

Problem is there's no K-cars in my junkyard.

Could I buy one from you maybe since you have 5? I'm not sure if Lebarons have the same dash as the Dodge though...

I'm really "serious" about getting my instrument panel fixed. My car is a "show" quality '87 T & C wagon w/ ALL the "goodies". It will NOT be junked. But is essentially unusable, safely & legally, when one does not know what speed vehicle is doing, how much fuel remains in the tank, is engine over heating, is alternator putting out etc. etc. Don't tell me about getting one from the junk yard. I WANT MINE "FIXED".....Period. E-m me at a-pmartjr@mocksville.com ASAP

FYI - The Digital panels will interchage between the 600's and Lebarons. I put a Dodge panel in my 86 Lebaron ( which does not come with a tachometer, like the Dodge ) and the tach works. The displays are different, but everything works fine .. plug and play !
