Fuel Door Catch, Rocker Trim Needed

Postby GrammaCar » Tue Dec 16, 2014 9:20 pm

Hey, guys. I'm not totally sure this is the best place for this post, but I just took a guess.

I need a new fuel door lock catch. You know, the black plastic thing that holds the door closed 'till it's unlocked. Mine broke the first day I had the car. Just brittle from being 30 years old and soaked with petroleum I guess.

I also need the right side rocker panel trim. The chrome strip under the doors? That's what it's called, right?

If you guys have suggestions for parts that are close and will look alright, that's fine with me. This doesn't have to be restored to showroom floor condition.

Does that U-Cut trim stuff work OK? I thought about trying that on the rocker panel.

And do any of you have an idea on how to fix the fuel door? I have a magnet holding it down right now, and it's just not that cool looking.

Thanks, everybody!

Hi there, can you please email me some pictures of these areas to chryslerkcarclub@gmail.com? Also, I'd love to see some pics of your car if you'd like. I am in
the process of trying to get some nice membership ID Cards made up. 8-)

Oh, man. I forgot to finish up this post.

It's an '84 Chrysler E-Class

I got the trim piece from a suggestion over on TurboDodge. There's a vintage Dodge parts place in Arizona or something. The poster actually had a part number and everything. Super easy, and it looks great.

The fuel door was a little trickier. I tried to glue it back together, but I think it was soaked with too much petrol to allow any kind of adhesive.

I would up rigging a paperclip/rubber band solution. It's working pretty well so far.

I'll try to get a photo.

Hey, guys.

I've got the trim part taken care of. It was the Right Side Rocker Trim. I ordered it from a place suggested on another thread.

I'll link the photos of the fuel door hack though. If I can figure out the part number that's broken, I could probably use a new one.

Let's see...

I'm new to this online photo stuff, so let me know if these won't work.
