Late Model Reliant

Postby jed1977K81 » Wed Feb 16, 2011 1:23 am

I could not believe my eyes today on the way home from work! A rust free Late Model 2 door Reliant driving not a mile from my house! The car had a Dodge ram Hood ornament bolted on, but looked nice and the car was rust free from what I could see of it! I will hunt it down and get pics!

Wouldnt that be nice to say...Late Model....
Unfortunately as 1989 was the last, thats 22 years ago.
So,I guess we could call 1981-1984 Old-er models,and 1985-1989 Late-er models.

Can only imagine a police dispatcher....
"Suspect vehicle is a dark blue, late model Plymouth Reliant 4 door sedan, bearing licence plate..."

Now just think what the cops might have in mind hearing that....an Acclaim?
A Breeze? or even an Avenger?

The way Daimler and Cerberus rode Chrysler into the ground, they probably would have loved to have a Reliant/Aries still in production as late as a couple years back.

The 7/70 Protection plan has long since ran out.......

More like 23/100 warranty.....

Chrysler didnt realize how long these could go with as little repair as they have needed....
Aside for the inevitable head gasket failure, not much else were major trouble areas.
The 3spd automatic was rock solid, the electronics basic,no frills, nothing not already tried and true..

Had they had the gonads to try it,they could have easily offered a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty (with a $100 deductable) and absolutely stole the thunder from the competition.
GM years later went to a 10/100K powertrain warranty as a marketing ploy....
Chrysler even dabbled in a Lifetime powertrain warranty.....when it was in deep trouble.

However with the simple Ks,their minds would have been at ease, because they would never had gotten into trouble offering that kind of coverage on those cars.

To me,when the warranty is over, the car isnt Late Model anymore.
Its just another Used/older car.
