But did the Jaguar know it was competing with you?
Yes
But to be honest, I knew the road better. I had to travel it twice a day every day to get to work. 40 miles each way on this mountain road. It did get tedious and boring- had to make it more interesting somehow whenever the opportunity came.

I can testify to that slug image too. My wife and my first new car together was a 1976 Mustang, one of those based on the Pinto. It had the 2.3 4 banger in it and it was a slug. It couldn't have powered its way out of a wet paper bag. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Our next new car once we got rid of the Mustang was a 1978 Chrysler LeBaron- an absolutely great car, especially by comparison- and its been Chrysler all the way ever since.

I know of one female in the 70s (she was pretty ugly looking) that had bought a new Mustang II hatchback V6 in 76,and with the car falling apart, she went out and bought a Mustang II Ghia V6 complete with vinyl roof. That car lasted until the early 80s when it was in deplorable shape.Far as I know she never bought another Ford ever again.Think she went Japanese....Those Mustang IIs had a habit of doing that.
A Plymouth (Mitsu) Arrow or Dodge Challenger/Sapporo would have been a better choice overall....
