K car close to being on the road!

Postby jed1977 » Sun Apr 15, 2012 10:29 pm

Hi Yall! Its been a while since I have posted here. Got my 81 Reliant about ready for the road. Just have to install a new Cat and pipe in the exhaust and new engine mounts. While waiting for those parts to arrive, I started cleaning and Polishing the ole girl.

Now, does anyone know of a good product that I can use to bring my 31 year old paint a bit better? There is no help for the front fenders due to the shoddy touch up work of the previous owners son, but the rest of the car is getting better! There has to be something else out there I can use to get it even better though.

It looks like it is really sun faded...Here is my tricks of trade

1. Get some 3M buffing compound, you can buff with a pad or rag, buff until glossy
2. Apply some wizzards paint sealent, it gives a nice shine
3. Apply a non Caranuba (completely crap) wax, Meguiars 2.0 works well on paint
4. It should look like brand new....

Btw this is my way of getting my cars ready for a show or just when they are dusty..

When installing the motor mounts leave them loose and run the engine occasionally above idle for a while.
This will allow the mounts to seat properly and avoid vibrating after the mounts are snugged tight.

This cured the problem for me. A shop instructor in a College in Missouri clued me in.
