Can anyone identify where this wire is supposed to plug in?

Postby jdhanley » Tue Sep 01, 2009 9:08 pm

I have attached a photo. This is looking down from under my hood. You can see the oil filter and the wire that I've circled in red. This wire is attached to the oil filter cover (just to keep it out of the way, I guess). That plug definitely looks like it is supposed to plug into something.

I attached it to the nearest thing that it looked like it would plug into and when I turned on the car the heat gauge was up to the max. I unplugged it and the heat gauge went back to normal.

This is a 1988 Chrysler La Baron, 2.5 Litre, K body.

Can anyone help me figure out what this is supposed to plug into?

I don't know if it is at all related, but the car feels like it is missing when I am highway speeds for a while.

It plugs into your temp sensor, where you put it. You must have the wrong sensor installed or it has failed.

Some of these sensors look alike but are different. Some are exactly alike except for the length of the probe.

Call the dealership and see if they have one. If not get the part number so NAPA can cross reference it in their system.

The same wire also isn't connected to anything on my aries, my temp. gauge works perfectly. Is there a possibility that it should be like that?

Could also be for the oil pres. sending unit. A wiring diagram will tell you want color wire goes where. From the picture, it looks to be to short to go up to the temp sending unit in the head. Since he's getting a reading on the temp gauge I'm inclined to think that the temp gauge wire is connected to the oil pres. sending unit. I may be wrong thu.
