umm Idk where you get the 100 MPH bullcrap, a 2.5 because of the torque will walk well over 100 MPH I have never tried it but it will walk to 70 really fast. But yes even my dad, a mechanic for 40 years says the 2.2 is more stronger over its bigger brother. but my 2.5 has been excellent. id like to see what my 88 and your 89 would do in a race, of course i got the smarts not to floor the sucker as the 2.5 gets most of the torque in the low band.

Hopefully I won't be needing to replace the engine. I'm in college so I'm scrapping around for money right now, especially with school starting next week and I don't have my books yet. I am pretty sure a 2.5 will go over 100mph. I had mine running around 95. MY buddy was behind me and said I hit that. My spedometer is off, so I'm not 100% sure. Didn't even mean to get that high. Stupid oversized tires. Probably added to my problem. Probably going to give the engine an overhaul. Still not sure though.

Well, after a couple months of having my K-Car down, I'm thinking about selling it. I'll put a post up in the correct forum. I don't want to see this car go to waste, so I thought this would be the best place to first put it out on the market.

Hard to tell positively according to your description, but if I'm reading it right you're talking about the "yoke" at the base of the piston where it attaches around the crankshaft via a "U" shaped fitting that fits from the bottom and bolts to the yoke of the piston. If that's the case, then you have bad rod bearings. I have replaced them on an engine simply by dropping the bottom piece, which leaves the rod loose in the cylinder. You can then put new rod bearings in and fasten everything back together again. Seemed to work for me, but I'm no experienced mechanic so I don't know if that is the best way to do it for the long run. I just needed a quick fix at the time.

Gearing with a 3 speed automatic is whats going to limit top speed.
I'm running around 3500 rpm @75 mph with 3.08 gearing.
Imagine what the rpms would be at 100 mph.Probably around 5,000.
Not good for the longevity of any engine.

Todays vehicles with OD trannys have it much easier.
A late 3.3 Caravan pulls 2100 rpms @65 mph,around 2600 @ 80mph.
100 mph would be no problem at just over 3000 rpm.2000 less than a K.
