Pulse Air system problem? 83 Lebaron

My 83 Lebaron runs well, even the Mikuni carb functions properly, but there is a loud,very loud throbbing engine noise at idle. I wouldn't expect Pulse Air to be silent but the car sounds a dump truck. I replaced a cracked exhaust manifold, donut gasket and resonator and found no exhaust leakage remains but the noise continues. I suspect the Pulse Air system but the hose connections are tight and it pulls a slight vacuum at the air cleaner which I believe is correct. Has anyone had experience with this problem or diagnosing the Pulse Air system?

have you replaced your timing chain yet?

I second that... and more importantly your balance shaft chain. Lose that and if you're cruising along you can kiss your engine goodbye since it'll stop pumping oil.
