2.6 engine hose question

Postby mona's k » Sat Oct 20, 2012 3:27 pm

Changing the oil in my '82 Lebaron before putting it away for the winter and noticed 2 hoses, about the size of heater hoses, that come from under the carburetor area and go into the block just above the oil pan and below the starter.

Question 1- what do these hoses do?

Question 2- as they look like they have the factory clamps on them I thought I should replace due to age, are they a special type of hose?

Those are coolant hoses. The 2.6L carb is controlled by engine coolant temperature.

That kind of bites!!

I drained all the old coolant out, replace upper/lower radiator and all the other hoses on the top side of the engine refilled with new coolant. Thought the only one on the underside was the radiator hose, surprised I missed it. Now it looks like I will need to redrain, replace the 2 hoses and refill the system sometime this winter.
