Removing pass side drive axel Q
Posted: Tue Jan 22, 2013 5:53 pmMust the transmission be drained before removing right side drive axel on ‘82 LeBaron with 2.6 l engine and automatic transmission? I need to change a leaking seal where axel enters transmission.
I replaced this seal last year while servicing the transmission when it was drained. I don’t see any notation to drain fluid before axel removal in manual, but Haynes is known to leave some steps out. I don’t need any more messes on the floor.
At some point my transmission was changed to a later unit of unknown year of manufacture. I do know the differential is filled by fluid in transmission, and not separately as the early units were.
