1984 Lebaron Rack & Pinion

So, after driving the Lebaron to work for a week now, I discovered I have been leaving a puddle of power steering fluid wherever I park. I had to fill the pump today, as it was almost empty. I believe the leak is at the Rack & pinon, as the boot on the driver side is soaked and dripping pretty good. I tried Lucas Power steering fluid, hoping it would slow & stop the leak. It didn't work.

So, plan on removing the rack & pinon system this weekend. Have any of you done this before? Any pointers? Also, there are 2 different types of racks, how do I tell the difference?

Thanks,
Don

Hi Don,

Don't know if this helps, but I have 224,000 miles, and a leaky rack and pinion at least the last 100,000. I just top off the fluid between oil changes.
It may not be that bad of a leak. Can you email me pictures of this rarer than dirt LeBaron?

Until I have time to replace the rack, can I just remove the belt from the p/s pump and drive it like that? The fluid is leaking heavily out of both steering rack boots.
