1984 Lebaron Temp Normal?

Postby 84Lebaron » Tue Jun 17, 2014 2:56 am

I have a 1984 Lebaron. Whenever I drive, the temp is about halfway up, but sometimes it will get close to the 2/3 mark on the digital dash. Is this normal?
I have done lots of work on the cooling system and it still does it.

Hi,

I would not be concerned unless it goes higher than 2/3. These cars were some of the first with an electric fan for radiator cooling. In slow traffic the temperature will climb until a preset point and the fan will kick on and cool things back off. On the highway air is rammed through the radiator by the forward motion of the car, so it stays cooler and the fan really isn't needed. The fan should also run continuously whenever the A?C is on. What you are likely seeing as the gauge goes between 1/2 and 2/3 is the fan cycling on and off.
