high idle and code 33

Postby niceold600 » Mon Jan 19, 2015 4:26 am

hi everyone

i have a 1986 dodge 600 with 2.5L auto.
it has started to idle high ... i haven't put a tach on it but i would guess around 1100 in drive. runs sweetly otherwise.
i am getting codes 33 and 55. i think code 55 is the "end test" code, so can you tell me what code 33 means, or at the very least point me to a link that explains codes ?

thanks in advance.

thanks very much for those links !

code 33 is for air conditioning, which my car does not have, therefore, no trouble codes are being thrown. i am going to have to do some troubleshooting using those links you gave me. the car was hard to start this morning too, catches then stalls immediately, and misses until warmed up.
will report back when i figure this out.

thanks again.

o.k. ... took me a long time to get after this problem, but i finally did. the engine also developed other problems in the meantime , namely : when coming to a stop it wanted to stall but would usually catch itself in time and idle back up; when reversing up an incline then letting off on the gas it would stall every time; fuel consumption was TERRIBLE; and finally, i had a no-start one rainy night but it eventually decided to start up after a few minutes.

after much reading of links i decided to swap out the distributor pickup; that cured the no-start situation.

for the high idle and stalling i was thinking along the lines of fuel pressure regulator and/or AIS motor and/or fuel injector and decided it would be simplest just to grab a throttle body from the wrecker since all of those are bolted to it, swap it out and cross my fingers.

got lucky, the throttle body swap solved all my problems. not the best trouble-shooting in the world, but if someone else is experiencing similar issues this may point them in the right direction.
