Trunk Lid Struts

Postby duehew » Sat Jul 23, 2016 7:08 pm

A friend of mine purchased a 1985 Chrysler Le Baron and had to replace the trunk lid struts. They are not strong enough to hold up the trunk lid. He said the original owner said 2 months after purchasing the car new the struts would not hold the lid up. Is there an aftermarket strut that is strong enough to hold the lid up? Does he need to move the strut location?? Thank you for your help.

I had a similar problem with my 88 Horizon; bought new "strong arms" and they were not...well, strong enough. I returned them for exchange to no avail, then returned them outright. I went to the junkyard and was fortunate enough to find another Horizon and grabbed those old strong arms....they worked like a champ. I now have to do something similar to my 85 Reliant. The new ones are garbage unless you really shell out so best play your luck on finding an old set. From my experience, if they function at all, they will function better than new stuff.
