I had the same problem. Then, I found out the belt was partly folded over inside the plastic interior panel. Rather than tear out the interior, I gently but firmly tugged on the belt until the creased part came out of the feeder. It then righted itself and the belt has been fine ever since. I'll bet after 20 years you probably have a simple crease or folded belt inside the panel that you can't see. Just be patient. It is better than ripping out the interior. Good luck.
