Hi, I have a 1991 Chrysler New Yorker with the 3.3 V6.

The shocks and struts have both been replaced in the front and back, but the saddle/bar that the rear springs sit on needs to be replaced pretty soon.

Here's the problem though, I really can't find the part anywhere I look. I'm a little bit confused to exactly what this bar is called, because nothing yields any results that match what I'm looking for.

The Chrysler parts book seem to call this assembly a "Crossmember" and it is a rather big assembly carrying the spring seats, trailing arms and shock absorber mountings as well as the rear wheel mountings. I don't have 1991 parts books so i can't tell you what the part number is. But, i doubt you could get it from Chrysler anyway. You will very likely have to find one in a junk yard. Your 1991 is not really a true k car but rather a derivitive. You might want to post this question over on the Allpar EEK forum. That the place that really covers this car.

There are two different parts depending upon which model and car you have. If you have the New Yorker (Salon?) (C-body short wheelbase version) - you should have the standard suspension. However, if you happen to have a New Yorker Fifth Ave (Y body -long wheelbase version) you could have either the standard suspension or the air suspension. The air suspension (used on some Fifth Aves and Imperials) does not refer to the option of air height leveling shocks but rather the use of air bags. 1991 Mopar parts numbers are listed below - which are now no longer available.

You have a couple of options. You can go to junkyard and get a replacement one. If you can't find one locally go to Harry's U-pull it in Harzletown, PA. But you have to remove it yourself.

If just the lower spring perch is rusted out or almost rusted out (which is very common) - you can buy a replacement part and weld it on or take it to a shop and have it welded. I had one replaced on my 93 Chrysler New Yorker. Links below to comparny, online store and catalog.

only a few bolts need to come out to change out that entire rear beam. i would get a solid replacement rather than have it welded (they'd probably have to remove it anyway)

It's called a rear beam as far as junkyards are concerned. I've changed them on both of my Imperials. Dynasty, New Yorker and Imperial ream beams will all work, you just have to bend new lines and swap brakes if you get it from one with drum rear brakes. Car-Part.com will locate one nearby.
