Disk Brake Rotor Size Question

Postby jco1971136 » Fri Apr 06, 2018 6:52 pm

Hi guys, I'm about to replace Front Shocks, Rotors and Brakes on my 88 Reliant but I have some questions.

The Rotors come in 2 sizes at the parts store (J.C. Whitney), 9 1/2" with 4 studs and 10 1/2" with 5 studs.
The problem I'm having is that the rotors on the front of my car are 9 1/2" with "5 Studs", but the only size I can find on the website are 9 1/2" with "4 studs".

Is it OK to replace the 9 1/2" rotor with 5 studs with the 10 1/2" rotor with 5 studs? I imagine this is just a Heavy Duty Upgrade but when I did the back Drum Brakes a few months ago the "Heavy Duty Replacement Springs Kit" was the wrong one and I had to use the old springs.

Not sure I'm explaining this right but I dont want to get it apart and then realize it's the wrong size and have to return the parts.

Thanks in advance for your help

Jim

Hi
By 1988 the four bolt wheel stud pattern was gone so I would question any listing that shows a four stud rotor for the 1988 model year. (Last used in 1985) Stick with the rotor size that's on your car that's not negotiable.
Napa and Rock Auto both show the 9 1/2" 5 stud Rotor in their On Line Catalogues.
