Hello all, I just got myself a 85 lebaron Turbo great little car just pings a bit when it works hard what and how to set the timing at.

To check the timing, you would want to get a timing gun from eBay or your friendly auto parts shop. Then follow the instructions on how to use it. If the timing is off, it will be visible. If you need more help, I can take pictures of mine.

check the timing, yes, but be sure you are running the correct grade of fuel. the T1 engines had programming to allow the use of cheap 87 octane in regular driving, but it pulls back the timing which hurts performance and economy. adding an inter-cooler is also a really good idea, but is a pain to do on the early "suck through" style T1 setup.

One thing I have also noticed with these K series cars..Check the 10 pin connector at the PCM on the drivers left fender..Wiggle that connector and see if the ping(labor knock) goes away...If so...clean the pins real good and that should take care of the issue.
