high idle

Postby 88aries » Sun Dec 29, 2013 8:57 pm

what would cause and fix this? started a few days ago, car seems to be idling at a higher rpm then what it should be. as i am driving, when i am slowing to a stop it seems there is constant throttle being applied at a minimum so right before i come to a complete stop ill feel it shift from 2nd gear to 1st. Also when taking off from a stop i release off the brakes and it feels like the throttle is being applied before i actually step on the pedal. info on car: 1988 dodge aries coupe, 2.2L 3spd auto.

If its TBI, it could be a faulty throttle position sensor. I have issues with my 84, it wants to gallop, then return to idle, then gallop again. I have a trusted chrysler guy who said it is probably the TPS. Good luck. Marty Kolnar at Arizonaparts.com may have it.
