Okay Advice.....am I crazy?

Postby Ghans64 » Tue Jan 19, 2010 11:44 pm

I saw an ad for a 1986 Dodge 600 ES for sale for 1000.00 dollars which I think after talking to the guy I can move the price down. The car is the exact same car as my baby. I am thinking of getting this car and using it for a parts car since everything works on the car and is orignal. Everything from body panals and paint color are exactly the same so almost every part on the car I could use to help keep my baby alive, since parts are becoming so hard for me to find. Does this sound like a good idea or am I just crazy going out and buying a car to use for parts? Should I continue just searching junk yards or buy a car and use it for its parts?

I think you should buy it and keep BOTH cars alive. What parts are so hard to find for you ? Many non K car parts are found on other models. Hell, my Laser has more non G body parts than G body parts.

If you have the room for it then its a nice cheap source of parts.

My first wagon has more Dodge Dynasty, and Caravan parts on it than replacement K-parts. The back end and the computer is off of my dad's old 4 banger '91 Dynasty, and the exhaust, wiper motors, alternator, floormats, carpet, head liner, seat fabric, and dome lights are out of a Caravan. So what ever parts fit, you might as well use! So, technically, my car is a Dodge Dynaravan!

Buy it you never know when you'll need parts especially since it's a carbon copy.

Very good idea!

For many years, I have always tried to find entire parts cars to buy for my restorations instead of paying for each and every piece seperate, IF i can even find them. Bought a 1981 Aries and basically took it apart and put it in the garage attic for "someday" use parts for my '81. You can always use all the little bits and pieces to improve what is on your car. I have even swapped out little things like screws and fasteners to get those that were more perfect.

But, I would really work on getting that price down, $1000 seems a little high, in my oppinion, for a car you are just going to part out.

Buy it. A grand is cheap - compared to your time plus the cost of the little, bull**** parts we all need. Take what you need and offer the rest up to others. Odds are, you'll make back half your money.............
