From 2.2 to 2.5

From 2.2 to 2.5

Hey yall;
I work at a salvage yard in Bonaire,Ga. that my good friend bought back in Jan.All we have currently as far as whole cars is one sad old 92 Acclaim.But we do have at least three 2.5 engines collectin' dust.My car has a tired old 2.2 with a new timing belt and other parts,but lots of miles.
Anyway,two of my 2.5s are listed as havin' less than 100K on them.I'm thinkin' about installing one in my 88 5 speed coupe.Question 1 is do I need to find a 2.5 computer? Question 2 is Are all 2.5s similar in specs or are there desirable and less than desirable? Question 3 is Would this conversion be the simple plug & play bolt up that I've heard it is?
Like I said,I work at a medium sized yard here in middle GA.We don't have much for K cars,but lots of other stuff.If anyone needs somethin' for their daily driver,just call and ask.Of course I can't ship the big stuff,but I will gladly do what I can to help keep wheels on the road.Maybe some of yall Southeastern members could ride down.
Call Jason at Emmett Head Auto Salvage anytime 'tween 8 and 6 PM Eastern time at 478 922 4247.I will give members the "I drive an 80s car discount"'
Oh yeah,we just got in a wrecked 05 Neon SXT with the cool chrome wheels.These will fit 5 lug Ks.

i prefer the 2.5 over the 2.2, especially when you don't have a turbo. a 2.5/5spd combo is supposed to be able to do 0-60 in around 10 seconds in a lighter car like an original k. would make it competitive against a bargain basement model from just about any economy car manufacturer.

comparing an 88 to a 92....

all 1989+ 2.2/2.5 use the heavy duty common block engine
all 1988 and newer 2.5's have a roller valvetrain (not all 2.2's got them that first year of the switch)
1991+ tbi motors "should" have cross drilling (extra coolant passages) like turbo engines got earlier on....helps reduce the heat generated by a siamese cylinders that don't allow for water jackets.

i have a 91 dynasty 2.5/3spd that will be going in my 86 k wagon. planning to graft in 90/91 turbo electronics, a turbo intake and run a mexican calibration for mpi (+10hp). it will allow me to use the lockup torque converter that wasn't available until 1987. i also picked up a 93-94 tbi valve cover that is basically a turbo cover but without the wording embossed on it. made out of aluminum instead of stamped steel like earlier tbi covers and uses the one piece gasket like all 89+ turbo 8 valve covers.
