Reedsburg car show and swap meet

Postby 88 aries » Sun Jul 17, 2011 5:45 am

so far every weekend has been either hot or rainy, well today I finely made it out to a show, the roads were a little wet but not to bad, while going down main street, I spotted a 1983 Dodge 400 convertable black with red interior, really nice car, I was looking it over with a fine tooth comb, no rust at all, just a few dings, but then I opened the hood.. and soon as I saw the plagued JAP POS 2.6 I closed the hood and got in my 2.2 liter K and went to the show, It feels good knowing that I have the 2.2 engine. anyways onward to the show, I told my friend last week to bring his 1988 buick park avenue, with 53,000 miles. the cars that I was up against were as follows, 1987 blowsmobile (oldsmobile) 442 1986 Crapolet (chevrolet) monte carlo s.s, my friends 88 buick park avenue, and of course my 1981 Reliant, The judges were really impressed with the car and called it a survivor, infact the judging was so close that they came a second time around to look at the car, in the end it was My reliant and I and the oldsmobile. Gas mileage also improved from 20 to 25.5 :D then when I got home I knew why, the airhose that connects from the computer to the airbox came off..

but all in all good day

Congratulations on your day at the meet, but your continual bigoted remarks about the 2.6 and other makes if cars, other than your own, is narrow minded, childish, racist, and stupid. GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 58 and I think that the 2.6 is a POS too. I.m a professional auto tech, gonna tell me to grow up too ? There's a reason so many are in the J/yards Nick. Try fixing one B4 judging Justin, that's if you know what a screwdriver is.

Well, some 2.6s have made 200,000-300,000 according to Allpar. They also run smoother than Chrysler motors. Just a lot of weak spots.

LOL you will never convince butch and I, all the ones I have heard run like a bag of garbage. My dad hates them, my grandma hated hers that she hate back in 1986, she only owned the car for one year until she traded it in on a new escort wagon. I challange you Guy to work on one of those engines, then you will see why I hate it so much, I will give an exception to nicks 82, its a nice looking car, and I got nothing against that 2.6. the one good thing about the 2.6 is that it brings up a nice conversation piece.

But, they lasted forever in trucks, and are turbocharged in the Chrysler Conquest. For some reason, Front-wheel drive application had some weak points, and seemed to fail in a lot in Ks, but not in trucks. This is also according to articles on Allpar. In Japan, they last almost forever, as some owners attest. And even if the engine is not the best, more of us should be supporting our 2.6 owners, as I have a tech link set up for 2.6 people. I personally gave some referrals to a 2.6 owner on here and told him we were developing our 2.6 knowledge base. I can personally attest to driving TWO 1981 Reliant 2.6 K-cars a year ago that the 2.6 is quiet and even though lacks acceleration, cruises at 75 no problem. George Nerrie's 82 LeBaron 2.6 Coupe with sunroof is amazing for a 2.6. It actually has some kick to it when you accelerate. Maybe he had a good mechanic modify it for some pep. So Nick, don't worry about it, but do some research as I do know for a fact that the oil pump chain rides on teflon stuff and when it fails it immediatelty seizes the engine. Also, unfortunately, the timing chain on the 2.6 I believe is an interference motor, but non-interference on the 2.2. And since we are bashing the 2.6, the Chrysler 2.5 and 2.2 has crappy headgaskets, unless you get aftermarket parts, and the electronics for OBD1 are DEFINTETLY a pain, as I am going through a nightmare on mine. Nick has no serious computer or electrical problems to worry about. 2.2 and 2.5 engines are always throwing some stupid ass computer code that can be VERY annoying to say the least. So, lets be positive and try to come up with ways to compensate for the negative. No engine is perfect. I would love to own a 2.6. :D

for one computers never gave any problems on the 2.2 and 2.5 when new, as for the headgaskets, that is their weak point, which is about the only problem mechanically, of all the ones we have had we never had a computer problem. and the only reason you claim that OBD1 is a pain is because you don't have the knowledge to work on cars. Its easy my tan 86 Reliant had code 23, coolent sensor, what did I do? went to carquest and bought a brand new one and installed it less than five minutes, car runs perfectly now. Most of your problems are not listening to butch, crappy mechanics and failure to grab junkyard parts when they are in sight. As for an engine being perfect there is one engine that tops all the brands, Gm's bullet proof 3800 V6, which I think you should switch to. They are an engine that can take lots of abuse. our 92 lesabre has 389,000 miles on it, engine has never been touched in it. minus the floor rot it will make 400,000. should I mention for the 2.6 cracked heads, valve problems, timing chain problems, massive carb problems/chock problems. Must I need to go any further with the list of junk engines in history? For the record yes..

2.6 mitsubishi liter
peugeot 1.6 liter
2.7 liter V6
mitsubishi 1.8
GM 350 Diesel
GM 4.3 V6 Diesel
chevrolet 2.2 non eco tech

anyone else like to add to the crappy engine list?

the 3100 in my friends olds cutlass supreme is a pos in fact that whole car is a pos
every Mitsushity engine Ive ever working on had some weird quirk that made it a pain in the ass (eclipse i worked on a while ago had the starter on top of the engine between the block and the exhaust manifold)

Well, I've tried to make my engine run right. I do retrieve codes and go to the junkyard on occasion. I made my electrical problem worse by cutting off wires and a clamp and having it spliced
directly from a junked car into my car. Now, the check engine light does whatever it wants. I now want to just throw an entire engine bay wiring harness at the problem, unless there is REALLY a car
electrician I can trust, which I don't think there is, and I would get charged $500-1000 in diagnosis fees alone.

Ohh I love the crappy engine list!
Let's start foreign,
-Acura 1.6L 4cyl. found in the 1.6EL if the timing belt isn't perfectly tensioned it will eat the valve's as soon as you start it,
-VW 1.9L TDI not as good as the later motors and massive oil leaks on the turbo.
Not many other's I hate from Euro/Asia.
Domestic:
-GM's plagued 3100/3400 high value V6 for those lower intake manifold gaskets
- Ford's 3.8L headgasket eater
- GM's 2200 I-4 for the same headgasket problems the Chrysler 2.0L, 2.2L, and 2.5L's were famous for.
-Chrysler's 4.0L V6 from recent years is having major problems with oil distribution and sludging problems.

Just an FYI I have nothing against the 2.6L engine, I've seen and driven a few nice ones and to be honest in good repair they are superior to the 2.2L Chrysler.
